About the Author - Ralph Wylam

Ralph Wylam ran his first social tennis tournament in 1986 and since then he has organised countless other similar events. These events are an essential part of any Club's activities but they are difficult and time consuming to arrange.

Ralph therefore decided to write a manual designed specifically to take all the hard work and hassle out of arranging this type of event. This book is the result of those efforts. Dozens of Clubs are using it.

Ralph is a fully qualified professional engineer (BSc CEng FIEE) with many years experience in both the UK and overseas. He is a keen all round sportsman and is an ex-Chairman of Adastra Tennis Club in Hassocks, Sussex, UK. He has held different Committee positions in a variety of clubs in both the UK and overseas.

He is particularly interested in promoting the game to youngsters. He believes that it is vitally important that tennis is made a game of fun for them. Naturally gifted players will become evident and then more intensive coaching can be applied if it is wished by the player.

Ralph believes that many tennis organisations put too much emphasis on looking for future champions and that instead tennis should be looked on as a fun, social and recreational activity which can be enjoyed throughtout one's life.
