3rd August 2010: The Men’s 2 had a hard match this weekend against Bishopthorpe, losing 40-68. Rob Jackson and Steve Pinion top scored with 20 games. They have 3 matches left to play before the end of the season in the Tyke Petroleum Men’s Tennis League. The Mixed 2 had a tough match against Appleton Roebuck. This is the first time the teams have met this season, as the first match was cancelled because of rain. Bubwith 2 won by 68-40, top scorers were Rob Jackson and Ann Wottge. At the moment the Mixed 2 are in forth position in the table with two matches to play. The Ladies 2 finished the season on a high; they beat Bishopthorpe 2 by 57-51 last week. Top scorers were Anne Stephenson and Ruth Marsland with 21 games. This is the fifth win in a row for the Ladies 2 under the captaincy of Lizanne Southworth. In total, the Ladies 2 in Division 7 of the Fulford Ladies Invitation League, have won seven matches and lost seven matches this season.

20th July 2010 - Bubwith Tennis Club: Three of Bubwith’s teams had great tennis results to report this week! The Bubwith 2 Mixed team met top of the table Stamford Bridge, who had an unbeaten run of 10 matches.  Rising to the challenge, Bubwith played their best match of the season.  Going in to the final round, it was all square at 36 games apiece, and after 2 more matches, it was still all square leaving it down to Alastair Southworth and Christine Frazer with 2 games to go to produce a result.  This, they did in fine style, the final score being a win for Bubwith by 55 games to 53.  Congratulations also to top scorers Steve Pinion and Ruth Marsland with 22 games. The Ladies 2 also went on to win away to Wilberfoss. A very tight match was played in very blustery and rainy conditions, ending in a 56-52 win for Bubwith. Another exciting match was the Men’s 2 at home against Civil Service. The final score was an excellent victory for Bubwith 70-38, Jim Tennant and Tommy Harkanyi top scored with 29 games.

13th July 2010, Bubwith Tennis Club: The Men’s 1 had an exciting win this week against Poppleton at home, the final score was 74-34. The top scorers were Fran Milivojevic and Mark Harris with 29, closely followed by Paul Blackett and Jon Mc Grory with 24 and Doug Smith and Jon Longthorp with 22. The Ladies 1 had their fourth win in a row on Saturday, this time away against Escrick. Zoe Sweeting and Soozi Allen top scored with 25 games. The Ladies 2 team had a tough game away on grass against Sutton on Derwent, the final score was a win for Bubwith 65 – 43. Unfortunately, both mixed teams lost their matches this week, the Mixed 1 against Poppleton and the Mixed 2 against Rufforth.

6th July 2010, Bubwith Tennis Club: What a good week for four of the six Bubwith tennis teams this week! The Men’s 1 had a great win away against Rowntree Park. These two teams had played against each other at Bubwith in the first match of the season, then the result was a draw, this time it was a convincing win for Bubwith 60-48.  Mark Harris and Fran Milivojevic were reunited to top score with 22. The match was followed by a picnic in the park with the Ladies 1^st team who were also playing Rowntree Park in the afternoon. They too had a great win, the fourth for their team for this season under the captaincy of Soozi Allen. The final score was 58-50. The top pair was Liz Bramley and Anna Airaksinen. The Ladies 2 team also has a great win at home against New Earswick, the final score after a very blustery but hot day was 62-36, the team was Diana Longthorp and Christine Frazer who top scored with 25 games, Rachel Longbottom  and Ruth Marsland with 20 and Lizanne Southworth and Margaret Denness  with 17. And finally to the Mixed 2 team, they won 70-38 at home on a beautiful summer evening against Bishopthorpe 4. Top scorers were Steve Pinion and Diana Longthorp who achieved a fabulous 29 games, they have only started playing together since the beginning of this season, so well done and we hope your successes will continue.

Bubwith Tennis Club 29th June 2010: The Mixed 2 team had a very exciting return match away to Cliffe last week under the captaincy of Diana Longthorp. Louise Smith and Rob Jackson top scored with a tremendous 29 games with one match 12-0, Steve Pinion and Ann Wottge made 24 and Benji Tenant and Margaret Denness 14 games. The final score was 67-41. The Ladies 1 had their third win of the season, this time at home against Starbeck. Top scorers were Liz Bramley and Anna Airaksinen who helped to bring the final score to 60-48. Another tremendous win this week was with the Men's 2 away against Bishopthorpe, the final score was 81-27. The Mixed 1 had a very closely fought match this week at home to York 3. Fran Milivojevic and Soozi Allen top scored with 21 games, Doug Smith and Liz Bramley with 18 games and Mark Harris and Louise Smith with 14 games, the final score was a close 53-55. Unfortunately, the Mixed 1 has not won any games this year and are looking to go down to Division 2 next year. And finally, in a very tough match in Division 1, the Men’s 1 lost 64-44 away at Fulford.
